Many people do not even know that there are various types of joint compound and that can make it difficult to know which to use when you do not know much about it. Fortunately for you, I am going to show you here how to distinguish them.
Drying type joint compound known as drywall mud is usually offered premixed in boxes or buckets. This type of drywall compound is prepared to be use right out of the box. Sometimes it will need a little water to adjust with what you are going to do.
All Purpose Compound is the most commonly used because it can be used for all phases of drywall finishing including the texture.
Taping Compound it's a strong drywall compound that has extraordinarily slight shrinkage as it dries and resists cracks.
Topping Compound it's very easy to use, dries fast and sands soft.
To finish today's post here is a tip. Adding to much water to the drywall compound while mixing it can cause undesirable cracks, so it is best not to use too much water to avoid unwanted cracks that later on you will have to fix.
How to Fix a Nail Pop In The Drywall
First scrape the nail pop with the drywall knife to see what caused the pop. Most of the times we will find a screw instead of nail, what we need to do now is make sure that the screw or nail is tight and that the sheetrock has not become loose, otherwise we need to put a couple of screws to tighten up the sheetrock. If we do not do this step the nail pop could come back later on if the sheetrock is loose.
Now to cover the surface where the pop was created we use drywall joint compound, apply it smoothly with the drywall knife and let it dry, apply a second coat if necessary and sand it to make it even with the wall, wipe off the dust that was left behind when sanding with a damp towel and is ready to texture and paint.

How to Fix a Large Hole in The Wall
If you have a damaged piece of sheetrock in your drywall, and is not a small hole but a big one, here I am going to tell you how to fix it for yourself, now you can learn how to fix a large hole in the drywall too.
To fix a big hole we are going to start by cutting out the damaged drywall, using the keyhole saw going outwards until you reach the 2x4 called stud, with the utility knife cut the left and right edges vertically over the outer studs about 3/4", this should be about half the width of the wood exposed.
Measure the opening size of the hole with the measuring tape to cut a piece of drywall to match the opening size, or slightly smaller, is very important not to forget that the measuring starts from the 3/4" overlap on the studs, to secure it in place use some drywall screws, or you can also use drywall nails if you wish.
The procedure is the same as if you were patching a small hole, so instead of putting the instructions all over again just follow the link that says drywall hole repair.
